Become a Qualified Community Health Care Aide
The Health Care Aide Diploma Program, through our partnership with Bay River College, provides the hands-on training, practical experience and industry support it takes to pursue a rewarding career support without spending years in school.
Classes are led by dedicated professionals with years of experience working in the field. As a student, you will train on industry-current information and get up-to-date skills in areas employers look for, including:
- Health Care Aid Roles and Responsibilities
- Human Body, Health and Chronic Illness
- Communication and Documentation
- Person-Centered Care and Comfort
- Complex Care Needs
- Activities for Clients with Various Conditions
- 3 Clinical Placements
Clinical placements are evaluated by a nurse to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to work in a variety of healthcare settings.
As a graduate of this program, you will have the knowledge and ability required to obtain entry-level employment in a variety of interesting health care settings, including:
- Individual Clients
- Private Agencies
- Long-Term Care Facilities
- Not-For-Profit Charitable Agencies
- Home Care
- Assisted Living Facilities
Due to the career-oriented nature of the proposed program and the accelerated delivery format, we are not able to engage in transfer agreements with other Alberta Public Colleges.
Health Care Aid students at Bay River and Bredin College take part in 3 clinical placements through trusted college partners who understand the value of clinical training. Gain on-the-job experience alongside working support professionals.
A professional practicum can be a great way to get a feel for your new career and make helpful industry connections before you graduate.
In alignment with regulations and recommendations from the Ministry of Advanced Education (PPC Branch), Bay River College is the Designated Learning Institute (DLI) for this program.

The dedicated Financial Aid team at Bredin College will help you through the financing process and discuss funding options with you such as Student Aid, personal line of credit or loan, or RESPs. They will take time to personally assist in determining which financial option is right for you. Once this is decided they work with you to help secure funding before starting your program.

This diploma is delivered by Bay River College, a preferred partner of the Bredin Group. This program is licensed to Bay River College and is delivered in its entirety by Bay River College in accordance with the Private Career Colleges Act of Alberta, 2005 S.O. 2005 CHAPTER 28 and the Private Vocational Training Act. Any student enrolled in this program will be under the direction and instruction of Bay River College and must comply with Bay River College policies, procedures, and requirements.
