Develop learning strategies by identifying your learning style, setting appropriate goals for academic success, developing methods to manage stress, overcome obstacles and stay on track while in school.

COMP100 Intro to Computers / MSOL100 Microsoft® Outlook (40 Hours)

Learn computer basics and prepare to develop your keyboarding skills throughout the entire program. Discover how Outlook is structured and how to use the various modules to coordinate communications and collaborate with others. Modules covered in this course include: Mail, Calendar, Tasks and Notes etc.

MSXL100 Microsoft® Excel Core (40 Hours)

Create and edit professional looking spreadsheets for a variety of purposes and situations as you learn a variety of core and intermediate features.

MSWD100 Microsoft® Word Core /MSDWD200 Microsoft® Word Expert (60 Hours)

Get comfortable working with a variety of core and intermediate features. Create and format business documents such as letters, forms, and newsletters etc.

BWRT100 Business Writing (40 Hours)

Review and implement basic grammatical concepts to enhance professional business writing skills to compose a variety of business documents clearly and concisely. Develop skills to ensure effective written communication in the workplace.

TERM100 Medical Terminology (180 Hours)

Master the language of medicine by learning medical terminology that reflects cutting edge clinical practice. The course begins with basic word structure, suffixes and prefixes used as terms pertaining to the body. Once you gain this fundamental knowledge, you will study systems throughout the body and the terminology used to describe them. Using case studies for each system, you will learn to apply the terminology.

MOCP100 Medical Office and Clinical Procedures (120 Hours)

Journey through a variety of clinical procedures in medical offices. You will learn, understand and gain competencies from law and ethics, to assisting in minor medical office procedures.

MDTR100 Introduction to Medical Transcription (100 Hours)

Gain knowledge and skills in the art of medical transcription. You will begin with basic skills such as spelling, grammar and keyboarding skills with a high level of attention to detail. Learn correct documentation reporting formats and the types of equipment and technology available for medical transcription.

HUCD100 Health Unit Coordination (120 Hours)

Health Unit Coordinators manage non-clinical tasks in hospital nursing units. You will learn how to manage patient medical records, patient activities and numerous orders while developing personal and professional skills.

AHCB100 Alberta Health Care Billing (20 Hours)

Learn the basics of coding and medical billing according to Alberta Health Care. From diagnostic to procedural coding practices to health care insurance, including WCB. In addition to billing and reimbursement, you will become familiar with some of the health care software used throughout the province.

CARS100 Career Strategies (20 Hours)

Explore the importance of job search materials including resume, cover letter, cold call scripts, etc. Your ability to find employment will increase, as your job search knowledge and understanding of the current labor market grows. Both group workshops and individual coaching sessions.

PRAC120 Practicum Placement (120 Hours)

Practice knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom during a four-week practicum in medical setting. Through this exposure, you will gain greater awareness of the specific responsibilities and daily experience of workers in the medical office field. The practicum will be supervised by Bredin College. The practicum is an unpaid placement.
